Making positive change through life coaching

Life is like the ocean… sometimes it flows smoothly, other times it can be rough, sometimes we roll on the crest of a wave, other times we dip down in to the trough of the wave. It is a normal pattern of life to have highs and lows, the rough with the smooth.

However, there are times when we get stuck in a negative pattern or behaviour that can creating obstacles that limit us living an enriched and fulfilling life. Life coaching can help you identify those patterns and behaviours and help you make positive change to overcome those limiting obstacles.

What’s best life coaching or counselling?

Life coaching and counselling are both talk therapies, both are person centric, the approach taken is the main difference.

Generally speaking a counsellor listens to their client tell their story. The counsellor deals with issues and problems by looking at past experiences and/or traumas and how those experiences impact on current behaviours. The therapy helps the client understand and resolve past issues. There is not a defined goal from the outset, instead the counsellor listens and asks questions, whilst the client dictates the path the journey takes.

Life coaching takes a structured, action oriented approach, dealing with the present and looking towards the future. The areas of life causing limitations or obstacles are identified and achievable goals are set. This process helps a client to gain an understanding of their life values and beliefs, it helps them to add clarity and perspective into a situation. The overall experience will build confidence, give clients the tools and strategies needed to overcome future obstacles.

In answer to the question ‘what’s best life coaching or counselling’ – it depends! It depends on you and where you are in your life.
